Performance under stress

In reading some research on High Velocity Human Factors (HVHF) – performance and decisions making under fear induced stress, I came across some interesting quotes:

“Train with the understanding that firearms practice is 75% physical and 25% mental; however a gunfight is 25% physical and 75% mental” Unknown

“The mental is to the physical as 3 is to 1” Sun Tzu and later Napoleon.

“Everything else is just technique. If someone has great technique, but lack the essential mental weapons, he will be defeated by an unskilled fighter who ahs them. That is why many black-belt get wiped out by street punks in alleyways” John Giduck

“In the end, it is not about the “hardware”, it is about the “software.” Amateurs talk about hardware or equipment, professionals talk about software or training and mental readiness” Lt. Col. Dave Grossman

There is a trend in all of the above quotes (by men much more experienced and knowledgeable than I), that denotes the fundamental and critical importance of mental preparation. The mindset is what most often determines the victor in Combatives.
